Expanded Green Zone

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

During last fall quarter, we noticed that students are really great about following the rules for the library zones, especially in the red Silent Zone. Thank you! :) The green Collaborative Zone was very popular too and we realized that we need more tables in the Green Zone where you can talk normally and collaborate with others. That became one of our projects for the winter break and we really like the new look and we hope you do too!

1. The reference collection was weeded and some volumes were moved to Archives;
2. The reference shelves in the middle of the library were shifted to the west;
3. Four large tables were added to the Green Zone outside of the Epicenter;
4. “Reserve Ref shelf”: All reserve reference books (those books that your professors pulled for specific classes and have different loan periods) are on a standalone “Reserve Ref shelf” behind the reference desk and the new books shelf now.
5. “Oversized shelf”: All oversized books (art books, etc.) are on the “Oversized shelf” at the end of the main collection now.

Fitness Center Winter Break Hours

The last day to workout in the Fitness Center for credit is Saturday, December 5th. However, our administration worked hard to extend the availability of the Fitness Center to currently registered students, staff, and faculty. The extended time is;
Tuesday, 12/8 through Friday, 12/11 from 6am~2:30pm
Monday, 12/14 through Friday, 12/18 from 6am~2:30pm

We will be closed for the remainder of December for pre-quarter maintenance. We will reopen Monday, 1/4.
Enjoy the break.

Proctored Exams

The library has posted the policy used for proctored exams, slightly revised at the 11/10/09 Library Committee meeting. It includes links to the other departments offering proctoring on campus: the Assessment Center, the Resource Center Disability Services, and the Open Computer Lab. (Updated Feb. 7 2011 y.y.)

In addition to CBC, those seeking proctoring services may wish to contact the Mid-Columbia Libraries' Kennewick (Main) and Pasco branches, Charter College, Sylvan Learning Center, and WSU-Tri-Cities.

Jobs: Library student worker

We'll have openings for student workers in the Library starting Winter 2010. If you are interested, pick up an application form at the student employment office and submit the completed application to the Library Circulation supervisor.

Applications are accepted from Nov. 5, 2009 to Nov. 19, 2009. Training will begin over Christmas break.

Gale Contemporary Literary Criticism - Cancelled

At the end of September 2009 our subscription to the Gale Literary Database Contemporary Literary Criticism expired. This was not renewed as it was one of our lowest use databases. Students and faculty still have access to the full Gale Literature Resource Center through the Richland Public Library, although they will need a library card from them. Further, literary criticism will continue to be available in journals in EBSCOhost and ProQuest.

The library retains numerous print volumes of the Gale literary reference series Contemporary Literary Criticism, Contemporary Authors, Dictionary of Literary Biography, and more. You can use the Gale Literary Index to determine which volumes have the title/author you are seeking and check our catalog to see which ones we own.
